Mr. Larry James Grossnickle, 61, Middletown, died Friday February 4, 2011 at Kline Hospice House in Mt. Airy after s short illness. He was the husband of Muriel (Bonnie ) Grossnickle, his wife of 37 years.
Born in Frederick, September 12, 1949 he was the son of the late James Peter and Esther Elizabeth Reid Grossnickle. He was a 1967 graduate of Middletown High School ; attended Bridgewater College for two years and was in the Bridgewater Touring choir.
He was a 1971 grauduate of the University of Maryland where he majored in agriculture and was a member of the college judging dairy team and a member of the Alpha Gamm Rho(AGR) fraternity. He was a long time dairy and crop farmer and was a member of the Maryland Virginia Milk Producers.
He was baptized member of the Myersville Church of the Brethren and attended Frederick Church of the Brethren for over 20 years and a very active member of the Pathfinders Sunday school class. He was involved in 4-H as a youth and parent ; was a 4-H all star and also enjoyed singing in various choirs.
Surviving, besides his wife, are:
3 children - Carolyn M. Grossnickle - Honolulu, HI; Andrew P. Grossnickle and wife Anna - Fredericksburg, VA; Stephanie Grossnickle Batterton and husband Jim - San Antonio, TX
1 sister - Mary Ann Grossnickle - Middletown
The family will receive friends on Monday February 7 at the Donald B. Thompson Funeral Home, 31 E. Main St., Middletown from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM on Tuesday February 8 from the Frederick Church of the Brethren, 201 Fairview Ave. Frederick.
Rev. Dr. Paul Mundey and Rev. Brian Messler will officiate. Interment will be made in the Grossnickle Church of the Brehtren cemetery, Myersville.
