God welcomed home Scott Cresap Mekkelson, 50 of Middletown on August 30. He passed peacefully surrounded by family after a brave and courageous battle with Colon cancer.
Scott was born on September 17, 1967 in Colorado Springs, CO. He moved to Middletown in 2001. He lived in many places in the USA as well as in Germany for 2 years while his father was in the Army.  
He was the loving husband to Stephanie Shafer Mekkelson for over 17 years. In addition to his wife he is survived by, 3 children, Alex, Trevor and Jessica, parents, Peter and Suzanne Mekkelson, brother Paul (Karen) Mekkelson, Sister-in-law Denise Sigler, Brother-in-law Brad Wilson, nieces and nephews, Cori, Ian, Branin, Bryant (Marko) and Oliver,  Mother-in-law, Robyn Shafer, his loyal companion, Wellesley and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Lois and Van Cresap Norman, and paternal grandparents Phyllis and Wayne Mekkelson, Father-in-law Skip Shafer, Mother-in-law Bobbette Shafer.
Scott graduated from Ansbach High School, Germany in 1985.  He went on to receive a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Indiana University.  He was a loyal Indiana Hoosiers sports fan. Scott was a commercial construction estimator and was employed at KBE Building Corporation in Columbia MD for the past 4 years.  Prior to that he worked at Warner Construction for over 10 years.  He loved building and the construction industry.  He was an active member of Christ Reformed Church in Middletown, a member of Amvets Post #9 and the NRA. At one time he was actively involved in MVAA youth programs as a soccer and basketball coach.  He had a great passion for sports; and how that influenced each child he coached.  He was an avid follower of MHS Knights sports teams, especially football, basketball and soccer.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Wounded Warrior Project and Christ Reformed United Church in Middletown.  The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 8, 2018 from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. at Christ Reformed Church in Middletown, 12 S. Church St., Middletown, where the funeral service will be held at 11 a.m.  A celebration of life will follow the service at Middletown AMVETS Post #9.  Scott wanted everyone to dress comfortable and wear their favorite college sports team or any patriotic attire.
