Mrs. Shirley Ann Brandenburg Gouker, 81, of Myersville, passed away peacefully Monday, February 19, 2018, at her home. Born November 16, 1936, in Myersville, she was the daughter of the late Ray and Cora Schroyer. Mrs. Gouker is survived by her husband of 29 years, Ralph Robert (Bob) Gouker.

    Surviving, in addition to her husband, are five children: Sherry Sowers and husband Phil, Perry Brandenburg and wife Jill, Randy Brandenburg and wife Lisa, Sue Cogle, and Gene Brandenburg and wife Lisa. She also leaves behind 12 grandchildren: Chad, Jessica, Justin (Buck), Will, Jake, Austin, Blake, Troy, Jack, Miranda, Trevor and Hunter, as well as several great-grandchildren. Mrs. Gouker is also survived by step-children David Gouker and wife Laurie, and Deborah Gouker. Four step-grandchildren also survive her: Jason, Jennifer, Mark and Rachel, as well as four step-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Gouker is also survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Patsy and Gordon Lushbaugh. Mrs. Gouker was predeceased by her first husband, Kenneth Ray Brandenburg, and her sister and brother-in-law, Mary Elizabeth and Dennis Flook.

    For many years, Mrs. Gouker worked as the bookkeeper in the family painting business, K.R. Brandenburg and Sons. She was also employed as a secretary/bookkeeper for the Maryland State Highway Administration and for the law firm of Shoemaker and Clapp. Additionally, she was employed as a teller with the Myersville Bank prior to her retirement. In her leisure time, Mrs. Gouker played the piano and served as choir director at the Pleasant Walk United Methodist Church, and volunteered with the March of Dimes. After retirement, she was an active volunteer at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Myersville. She and her husband Bob also enjoyed traveling, attending and exhibiting at gas engine shows, woodworking, and crafting. They were well-known in local craft circles for their beautifully painted wooden craft pieces.

    A funeral service will be held Friday morning, February 23, 2018, at 11 a.m. at Mt. Zion UMC on Main Street in Myersville, with her pastor, Rev. Michael Beiber, officiating. There will be an hour of viewing for friends and family beginning at 10 a.m., prior to the funeral service. Interment will be in the church cemetery immediately following the service.

    In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Hospice of Frederick County. The family also wishes to thank Hospice of Frederick County, its volunteers, and Dr. Andrea Kaleta for their kindness and care during the last several months.
