John Joseph "Jack" Kee, 82, Frederick, formerly of Middletown died Sunday February 11, 2018 at Martinsburg VA Medical Center in Martinsburg, WV. He was the husband of Evelyn L. Kee who died on December 29, 2017. Born in Amityville, NY on January 30, 1936 he was a son of the late John Joseph Jr. and Eleanor Marie Regan Kee.
He graduated from Mepham High School in 1953, received B.S. degree East Asian Politics and Political Science Nassau Community college and SUNY New Paltz. He then received his degree from Frederick Community College in construction management. he was employed in construction and surveying in New York City from 1953-1958 he then was in construction management and layout on the Chesapeake Bay bridge and the Washington Metro System and served as superintendant on many commercial multi-story projects with many companies including Abramson Construction and was also self-employed.
He served in Special Forces with the US Army in Vietnam in Combined Studies Branch (C.I.D.G) securing strategic hamlets and training and resettling the Katu tribes people. He was awarded the Vietnamese Parachutist Badge.
He is survived by six children John Kee of Reston, VA, Joe Kee (Ann) of Rockville, Larry (Pam) Schaffert of Myersville, Gary (Josephine) Schaffert of Silver Spring, Bonnie (Ben) Elliott of Reston, VA, and Mary Beth (Mike) Lowry of Boonsboro. He also leaves behind ten grandchildren; Angela, Allison, Lisa, Krista, Matthew and Jesse Schaffert, Rachel Lowry Sullivan and Ellie Lowry, Mia and Zoe Kee and two great-grandchildren Faith Stevens and Marilyn Tomalewski. Additionally he is survived by one sister, Daphne Rinehardt of Long Island, NY. He was predeceased by a son Mark Schaffert; sister Sippy Englehardt and husband Bob and brother-in-law Bob Rinehardt.
The family will receive friends on Thursday February 15 from 6 to 8 PM at the Donald B. Thompson Funeral Home, 31 E. Main St., Middletown. Funeral services will be held 11 AM on Friday February 16 from the funeral home. Rev. Vanessa Smith will officiate. Interment will be made in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Middletown.
