It is with great sadness and broken hearts we report the untimely death of Elena Carter Trott of Harpers Ferry, WV, on Sunday February 11, 2018. Elena died at Frederick Memorial Hospital after a short but determined battle with endometrial cancer and diabetes. Born September 5, 1965, Elena was the daughter of Caleb M. Trott, Jr. (deceased) and Elaine DeLauder Harp and the step-daughter of Chuck Harp of Jefferson. Elena was 52 years young and a graduate of Gov. Thomas Johnson High School.
Elena worked at the Dutch Plant Farm for several years and developed a life-long love of plants. She also worked as a recruiter for several companies, the last being Concert Technologies in Martinsburg, WV, a job she enjoyed with people she loved working with. Thank you Shanna and Dennis for all your kindness.
Elena was born a free spirit and always had a smile on her face. She pursued many adventures in her short life. She loved theater and was a member of The Little Engine Company in her teen years. She was a member of the Int’l Order of Jobs Daughters in Frederick. She enjoyed rappelling, she walked over hot coals, and also jumped out of a perfectly good airplane. She also led a life for some years that her mother knows very little about - probably a good thing – (this is for her friends who knew her ‘when’). She loved cats, plants, kids, art, dragons, tea, cooking and food and not necessarily in that order. And she loved people. Elena had friends who were true lifelong friends – many from her teen years – and she cherished them all. The stories they could tell (but didn’t!).
In addition to her mother and step-father Elena is survived by her partner and best friend, Tracy Tackett. Together their greatest accomplishment in life was raising Tracy’s niece and nephew, Angelia and Aron Tackett, to be beautiful young adults. Elena considered them her son & daughter. She was so proud of them! Also in mourning are her aunts and uncles: Beth Ohlsson and friend Brandt, Randy Trott, Robert S. DeLauder and wife Lisa; Linda DeLauder and husband Bill Steigelmann; John DeLauder and wife Kathy; Kathy (favorite aunt) Fiesler and husband John; Penny Bryant and husband Mike. She also leaves many cousins and other extended family members. A special furry friend P-Tate will forever miss her hugs and kisses. Elena was pre-deceased by her grandparents Robert S. and Marion DeLauder and Merritt and Claiborne Trott and her beloved Nana.
The family invites friends to a celebration of her life at the Jefferson Ruritan Community Center at 4603 Lander Road, Jefferson, MD. on Thursday, Feb. 15 at 11:30 AM. Elena loved food and was unable to eat for the last couple of weeks so come do so in her memory. Wear ‘Elena clothes’ and come with a smile on your face. And although Elena loved plants and flowers, she couldn’t justify the cost so in lieu of, contributions may be made to a worthy charity or to Angie and Aron for schooling in care of Elaine Harp, 4131 Springview Drive, Jefferson, MD 21755.

The world has lost a bright light this week. We will all miss Elena. She truly lit up a room anytime that she entered it.
