James Edward (Jim) Leggieri, 65, of Middletown, MD passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, December 13, 2017 following a courageous five-year battle with metastatic prostate cancer. His family was by his side every step of the way.

He was born in Cheverly, MD on September 20, 1952 to Anthony John and Mary Ann (Toth) Leggieri. He married his high school sweetheart, Suzanne Jean (Tomeny) Leggieri on August 28, 1971. He graduated from DeMatha Catholic High School and attended Prince George's Community College. He had a 30+ year career in Naval Engineering and worked as a government contractor until his illness forced him to retire. One of the aspects that he enjoyed about his job was the extensive travel which allowed him to see a great deal of the country over the course of his career.

He and his wife raised their family in Monrovia where he coached baseball and football for the Mt Airy Athletic Association for almost 20 years. He had many varied interests including drawing, music and woodworking. He was a talented builder and had a large workshop where he could complete his projects, including home remodeling. All of his homes contained his personal touches. He was a lifelong Washington Redskins fan. He also enjoyed playing the guitar and listening to The Beatles. Some of his favorite times were spent relaxing or tinkering around his cabin in West Virginia. He loved having his family around and tried to attend his grandchildren's activities as his health allowed. He was strong and courageous in his battle with cancer, making him a hero to his family and all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his father, Anthony John Leggieri, Sr and his brother, Anthony John Leggieri, Jr.
In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by four children, Jennifer Schmiel and husband David, of Middletown; Jamie Leggieri, of Rockville; Tony Leggieri, of Taneytown; and Robert (BJ) Leggieri and wife Becky, of Middletown; four grandchildren, Ethan and Jack Schmiel and Elizabeth and Samantha Leggieri; one sister, Nancy Leggieri; four brothers, Lawrence Leggieri (Susie), Thomas Leggieri (Kitty), Robert Leggieri (Kim), and Gary Leggieri; and devoted friend of 52 years, Rick Warboy (Pauline). He also leaves behind a large extended family of inlaws, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and many close friends. He will be missed by his "grand dogs" Ava, Duncan and Fuji.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 19 from 6:00-9:00 pm at Holy Family Catholic Community, 7321 Burkittsville Rd, Middletown, MD. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Family on Wednesday, December 20 at 10:00 am, followed by Interment at Christ Reformed Cemetery and a lunch reception at Holy Family.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to ZERO-The End of Prostate Cancer, 515 King St., Suite 420, Alexandria, VA 22314 or to Hospice of Frederick County, 516 Trail Ave., PO Box 1799, Frederick, MD 21702
