Mr. Amos Benjamin "Ben" Ahalt, 69, Jefferson, died Saturday October 6 at the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore.  He was the husband of Louise Specht Ahalt who died Nov. 4, 2010 and father of Amy Ahalt who died in 2007.

Born in Jefferson on January 9, 1943 he was a son of the late Amos A. and Helen Morrison Ahalt.  He was employed with Frederick Iron and Steel and later with D. W. Ogg until his retirement and  was a US Army veteran.  He was a member of the Jefferson United Church of Christ; life member of the Jefferson Volunteer Fire Co where he had served as President for over 30 years; Jefferson Ruritan Club; founding member of the Central Maryland Antique Tractor Club ; the Valley Memorial Post #9 AMVETS, Middletown; and a former member of the Heart of Maryland tractor pullers.

he is survived by:

1 brother - Ronnie Ahalt and his wife Evelyn - Jefferson

2 nephews - Mark Ahalt and wife Lisa - Middletown and Billy Ahalt and wife Jennifer - Myersville

great-nephew - Willie Ahalt - Myersville

a special great-nephew - Luke Ahalt

a special great-niece - Leann Ahalt

a special great step-grand nephew - Junior Schrodel

2 step-great nieces -Sarah Schrodel and Robin Schrodel

an aunt - Evelyn Morrison - Jefferson

Friends may call 6 to 9 PM on Tuesday October 9 at the Donald B. Thompson Funeral Home, 31 E. Main St., Middletown. Funeral services will be held 11 AM on Wednesday October 10 from the Pleasant View Church of the Brethren , 6213 Picnic Woods Rd., Jefferson.  Rev. Tim May will officiate.  Interment will be made in the Jefferson Reformed cemetery.  

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Jefferson Volunteer Fire Co. POB 578, Jefferson, MD 21755

I knew Ben for many years through our affiliations with the county fire service. He was a fine man, a gentleman. Condolences to his family and close friends.
