Marianna Derr Koogle, 80, Middletown died Tuesday, November 18, 2008 at Vindobona Nursing Home in Braddock Heights.

She was the wife of Leroy C. Koogle who died in 1971.

Born in Frederick, February 19, 1928 she was the daughter of the late G. Millard and Elsie Holter Derr.

She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Middletown; received her B.S. degree from the University of Maryland in 1949 and was employed as a teacher with Frederick Co. Public Schools.

She was first employed as a physical education teacher at Middletown High School and later a teacher at the Rock Creek School until her retirement in 1987.

She was a former member of the Middletown Amvets auxillary, the DAR, the Frederick Co. Teacher's Assn. and the Maryland State Teachers Assn, and the Middletown Volunteer Fire Co.

She is survived by:

1 daughter - Karol E. Koogle - Middletown

1 son - Dwight R. Koogle - Middletown

3 grandchildren - Lee Gillespie, Russ Gillespie, Lisa Gillespie - all of Middletown

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM on Thursday November 20 from the Donald B. Thompson Funeral Home, 31 East Main Street, Middletown.

Funeral Services will be held 11 AM Friday November 21 from Zion Lutheran Church in Middletown.

Rev. Dr. Kathryn Vitalis Hoffman, her pastor, will officiate.

Interment will be made in Zion Lutheran cemetery, Middletown.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Frederick Co. Humane Society Inc. 217 West Patrick Street, Frederick, MD 21701

Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. "Mrs. Koogle" was such a wonderful part of growing up in Middletown Valley. Her sweet dispostion, her smiling face, and wonderful sense of humor will be remembered. Hugs.
