To Rick's family: My thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. Rich was always ready to "pitch in" and help serve, no matter what job had to be done. He was so instrumental, for several years, serving as an officer for the Shafer Family Reunions, and he showed great pride in doing so. Thank you Rick. Job well done!

I just wanted to say that your dad was a great person whom i've known since i was a teenager when we lived in Braddock. He was a good friend and was there for me two years ago when i needed a friend. He will be missed by many. I know my Amanda enjoyed him at her basketball games. Please feel free to stop by the house anytime would love to see you both. Thinking of you both. Love Tammy Hammond

To Rick's Family - We are deeply saddened to hear of Rick's passing. He was a terrific man who I (Cathy) was fortunate to know in high school. Our entire family also got to know Rick when he coached our daughter in soccer and as we all watched in joy as Amanda and Sarah won state championships in soccer and basketball. May wonderful memories be a source of comfort to you during this very difficult time. Rick will be greatly missed by all. Love, Cathy, Pete, Sarah and Artie Hess

I grew up in Braddock with Rick. We spent countless hours at the pool and Beachley's. We would sit on the steps at the store and trade baseball cards! His mom was our postmaster so I got to see her mostly every day. He was just the best guy. I knew if I ever got in a jam or needed help he would be there for me. RIP Rick. You will always have a special place in my family.
Love, Kelly
