Mrs. Ruth Eloise (Knill) Gordon, 98, Jefferson, died Thursday June 24, 2010 at Vindobona Nursing Home in Braddock Heights where she has resided since taking ill. She was the wife of Wilbur Samuel Gordon who predeceased her in October, 2001.
She was born September 12, 1911 near Ijamsville, the daughter of the late Charles Coleman and Estella May Riddlemoser Knill.
She was a member of of the Jefferson United Church of Christ, the Toilers Bible Class, and the Jefferson Ladies Ruritan Auxillary, of which she was presented a life membership. She was well known for years for the many pans of turkey dressing she prepared for banquets and dinners served by the Jefferson Ruritan at the Community Center in Jefferson.
She loved to go to Food and Friends when she was able and enjoyed the company of her many friends she made there. She spent her life on the farm as a homemaker and enjoyed all kinds of needlecrafts, cooking and baking and making clothes, even doll clothes for her granddaughters dolls, Ken and Barbie. She entered many entries for years in the Frederick Fair and Grange competitions, winning quite a few honors.
Mrs. Gordon is survived by her daughter, Doris Ott and husband Franklin of Jefferson;a granddaughter, Brenda Blumenauer and husband Richard of Jefferson; two grandsons, David Ott and wife Debbie of Frederick and Samuel Ott and wife Katherine of Jefferson.
four great-grandchildren, Bradley Blumenauer and his friend Mandy Harshman of Jefferson; Thomas Blumenauer and his wife Emily of Catonsville; Lauren Ott and Andrew Ott of Frederick. She is also survived by many special friends, nieces, and newphews, especially George Lease who regularly visited her at Vindobona Nursing Home upon her confinement there.
She was the last of her immediate family. She was preceded in death by brothers, Charles William Knill and Roy Knill, and sisters, Annie Hall, Mae Garst, Charlotte Lease, and Emily McCuller.
Funeral services will be held 11 AM on Monday June 28 at the Jefferson United Church of Christ, 3937 Jefferson Pike, Jefferson. The family will receive friends at the church from 9 AM until the time of the service on Monday. Interment will be made in the Jefferson Reformed cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to the cemetery board of Jefferson United Church of Christ, c/o Henry Lakin Jr, 3719 Lander Rd., Jefferson, MD 21755 or to the Jefferson Volunteer Fire Co., PO Box 578, Jefferson, MD 21755
Pallbearers will be grandsons, David Ott, Sam Ott, Richard Blumenauer, and great-grandsons Brad Blumenauer, Tom Blumenauer, and Andrew Ott.
