Mrs. Lola Faye Mark Adams,82, Middletown , entered eternal rest on Saturday February 20, 2010 at Suburban Hospital in Bethesda after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Major John C. Adams, USMC (Ret.)
Although she was born in Earlham, Iowa, she spent her school years in Chico, CA. She was attending Chico State University when WWII interrupted her studies. Although she was a lifelong learner and an avid reader, she never returned to formal education, but began what became a life long passion turned career in the world of travel. She became a stewardess and flew with the Flying Tigers in the 1950's. Her loved for travel continued as she worked for travel agencies in New York City and later in the Silver Spring area. In the early 1960's , Lola and the late Myra Dwyer opened Chevy Chase Travel in Bethesda. He love for travel and adventure continued as she led tour groups abroad. Her last job before retiring in 1999 involved completing travel arrangements for the staff at Channel 4 news. Although her move to Florida after retiring allowed her to enjoy warm weather and the company of good friends who also had migrated south, she preferred to spend spring and summers at her farm in Middletown. Retirement provided her with the opportunity to read, solve New York Times crossword puzzles and cook.
She is survived by :
2 sons - John C. Adams Jr. - Charlottesville, VA and Christopher J. Adams - Middletown
1 daughter - Victoria A. Souder and her favorite son-in-law Fritz - Rockville
5 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren
In keeping with her wishes Lola will be cremated and celebration of her life will be held at a later date at her farm in Middletown.
