James Robert Moody, of Hagerstown, passed away at his home on February 22.
Born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Jim was the only son of Susan (Wall) and the late Robert Moody.
James was the second of four children. As a young man he joined the United States Navy and became an Engineering Laboratory Technician. Jim excelled in Nuclear Power School and served on the nuclear submarines USS Gato and USS Salt Lake City. During his time in the Navy, Jim traveled from coast-to-coast and around the world. Following his honorable discharge, he worked for the National Institute of Standards and Technology.
Jim was skilled at most activities he tried. As a child and teenager, Jim tried his hand at a variety of sports including soccer, gymnastics, and fencing. But eventually he realized that his true passion was the arts. He spent much time pursuing his interests in drawing, painting, airbrushing, ceramics, and sculpting. As an adult, he loved activities that he could share with his children like woodworking, gardening, and (much to his family’s delight!) the culinary arts.
Jim is survived by his wife Dawn (Motosicky); children Sean, Kiera, Liam, Bridget, Aidan, and James; mother Susan (Wall) Moody; sisters Carol (Kevin) Clark, Debbie (Matt) Fegley, and Patti (Stephen) McCay; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Robert Moody.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, March 8 at 10 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Community in Middletown, Maryland. A memorial will be held at 11 a.m. followed by interment at Christ Reformed Cemetery and a lunch reception at Holy Family.
The family requests that memorial donations be made to Jim’s favorite charity:
The Batten Disease Support and Research Association
   2780 Airport Drive, Suite 342
   Columbus, Ohio, 43219
