William E. Barry, Jr., of Middletown, MD., passed away on April 3, 2017. Born in Eckhart Mines, MD on July 28, 1932 he was a son of the late William Sr. and Clementine Ward Barry. He is survived by his loving wife Helen and three sons: Mark (wife Cindy, son Matthew, and daughter Meaghan), Steve (son Kyle), and Chris (wife Tina and son Patrick).

William graduated from Beall High School, Frostburg State University, and Western Maryland College. He also played saxophone and clarinet in a dance band. William served four years in the U.S. Navy, including time aboard the U.S.S. Cabot aircraft carrier in the Koran War. After his service, he worked in Frederick County as a school teacher, principal, and supervisor of personnel until his retirement. During retirement, William and Helen belonged to a dance club and took many enjoyable bus trips all over the U.S. and Canada.

Bill was a kind and helpful man, whom I met working for Frederick County Public Schools. He was always ready to share a warm smile and offer a caring comment. May he rest in peace.

Dear Barry Family - Bill was my middle school principal at Thurmont Middle School and many years later we worked together at the Board of Education on Church Street. I cannot even begin to explain the respect and love I had for this wonderful individual. Did not matter what job title you had behind your name, he treated everyone wonderful How blessed you were to have had him as a husband, father and grandfather.

I was in a great number of fights in Thurmont Middle School. The reason was my last name, it rhymes with the worst word in the English language. I spent a lot of time in Mr. Barry's office. Mr. Barry was the kind of person that all the School kids there respected and loved.

Thank You Bill, with all my love and great respect to You, Helen and all the Barry Family.
