Mrs. Sandra Jeanne Leatherman, 56, Middletown, died Thursday November 8 at Frederick Memorial Hospital after a seven year long courageous battle with multiple myeloma.  She was the wife of Randy R. Leatherman.

Born in Bethesda, February 14, 1956 she was a daughter of Jeanne Clauss Watkins, Frederick and the late Ronald G. Watkins. She spent her childhood in the Washington metro area and later moved to Frederick, where she graduated from Frederick High School and FCC. She was employed for a number of years with BB & T as a branch manager, was a member of the Lutheran church, and an avid Redskins fan and gardener..  She was a devoted wife, cherished her family, friends, and pets..

Surviving, besides her mother and husband, are:

2 step-sons - Christopher and Jonathan Leatherman

1 step-grandson - Austin Leatherman

1 brother - Ronald Watkins and wife Polly

1 sister - Donna Burkhardt Rich and husband John

sister-in-law - Kathy Watkins

brother-in-law and sister-in-law - Steve and Robin Leatherman

her mother-in-law - Thelma Nixon and husband John

her father-in-law - Carroll F. Leatherman Jr. and wife Mary

She was predeceased by a brother Robert Watkins.

She is also survived by nieces and nephews: Heather Watkins, Melissa Mattos, Robbie Watkins, Christy Swartzman, David Watkins, Kevin and Holly Burkhardt, Ryan Leatherman, and Amy Knight.

There are also five great-nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Sunday November 11 at the Donald B. Thompson Funeral Home, 31 E. Main St., Middletown from 2 PM until 5 PM. Funeral services will be held 11 AM on Monday November 12 from the funeral home.  Rev. Stacey Brady will officiate. Interment will be made in Christ Reformed Church cemetery, Middletown.

I met Sandy when I worked at FCNB Bank. She was a friend of Christie Hammond's and we used to go country line dancing together. Sandy was a sweet and lovely person. Kenny and I send our thoughts and prayers for her family.

Randy, Although it was a gift to see you and Steve, Thelma and Carroll the other day, I wish it would have been under better circumstances. I am truly sorry for your lose. No words I could write can in any way express my sorry for you at this time. Please know you are thought of. I wish you peace.
